Womack & Bowman are hosting my Spanish web 3 part series class. Feb 7, 14 and 21, Saturdays 2:30-4:30pm. Register HERE

Spanish web has been my long time love and specialty. I have made a name for myself with the aerial quick change on Spanish web, but for over 20 years I have played with expanding the pathways of movement on Spanish web that transcend how is has always been used. I have created an interplay between the setter and flier through dynamic leverage, tension rope tricks and adding dance and acrobatics to the setters role.

The lack of exploration in Spanish Web often stems from its historical pigeonholing as a "display" act rather than a technical discipline. Because it was traditionally used in large-scale circuses as a synchronized "fill" act, it is frequently dismissed as a purely decorative, repetitive skill rather than a nuanced partnership. For over 20 years I have played with expanding the pathways of movement on Spanish web that transcend this stigmatism. The dynamic force employed by the setter creates an atmosphere that is completely unique to this apparatus, where we leverage with and against centrifugal force with our partners propelled.

This workshop will teach both the setter and flier roles to all participants, in order, to better understand the rhythm and tension of their relationship. As a setter you will learn to both manipulate and dance with the rope, while maintaining steady revolutions and speed. As a flier we will experiment with old and new shapes by expanding how to sequence movement in and around the rope.

We will go beyond the traditional “spin to shape” formula and unlock the potentials of this partnership by playing with -

Dynamic Leverage: Using the setter's weight to create oscillations rather than just rotations.

Tension Rope Tricks: Incorporating slack-rope releases or "wraps" that utilize the centrifugal force to hold the body in unconventional planes.

Ground-to-Air Interplay: Treating the rope as a bridge between the floor and the air, allowing the setter and flier to trade roles or interact physically throughout the sequence.

This workshop is great for those that want to collaborate in partnerships and ensemble interplay.

Aerial Dynamics is moving to JJs Gym on Mondays 10:30am-12pm starting Jan 19th.

Across all apparatuses the use of momentum and dynamics opens pandoras box to a whole new playground. It’s the place where physics drives and lifts us. In this masterclass series I will train aerialists to explore beat tempos, swinging, spinning and orbiting across apparatuses. They will get a chance to find the similarities and differences between how a vertical apparatus and bar work may feel, and how to adjust to their respective nuances. This is a great for aspiring aerialists that want to get hired in large company productions where they will be asked to work in an assortment of acts, as well as, a fun new way to explore aerial acrobatics for the enthusiast.
